Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before rotating through the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the quick descending corner approaching the last turn on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
