Labuschagne Dropped from Australian One-Day International Lineup Versus Team India
Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the three-game ODI series versus India, as in-form Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw earning a shock call-up.
Performance Issues Result in Omission
Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the ODI squad following scoring just one run in his two batting efforts during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a top score of forty-seven in his previous ten ODI innings.
The batsman has featured in 68 one-day internationals and scored 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64, but will now focus on earning a Test team comeback ahead of the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.
Surprise Inclusion and Other Squad Changes
Recent performances suggest of a resurgence with a score of 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw scored a century for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.
Renshaw could to make his ODI debut in the upcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.
He has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a red-ball recall as Australia search for a answer to their top-order woes.
Pace Additions and Injury News
Fast bowler Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after having time off since starring for Australia in the 3-0 Test series sweep of West Indies in July.
Big Bash star Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after being concussed in the build-up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.
ODI captain Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he aims to recover from a back injury in time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.
Team Announcement Approach and Fixtures
Australia have announced a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury suffered in New Zealand.
Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after hitting a ton in the last match against New Zealand to secure a two-nil victory last week.
“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be player management through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”
Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on 19 October in Perth, before the rivals play five T20 internationals from October 29.
