Israel and Hamas begin indirect talks in Egypt on the US Gaza peace plan.

Mediated discussions working toward a comprehensive deal on a US peace plan to end the war in Gaza have started in the mediation venue of the negotiation site.
Local and international officials have indicated that the discussions are concentrating on "establishing the groundwork" for a possible exchange that would involve the freeing of all detained individuals in compensation of a quantity of detained Palestinians.
The group stated it agrees to the negotiation framework to some extent, but has not responded to several key demands - including its military demobilization and governance position in Gaza.
Israel's prime minister said on Saturday that he expected to reveal the liberation of captives "soon"
Background Context
The talks, which will involve regional and international officials holding shuttle meetings with teams from both the two sides individually, take place on the approach of the two-year mark of the military operation on southern Israel on October 7th, in which approximately 1,200 people were fatally wounded and 251 others were captured.
The Israeli military initiated operations in Gaza in retaliation. Following the initial attack, 67,160 have been killed by armed interventions in Gaza, based on data from the region's local health authorities.
Peace Plan Details
The 20-point plan, which has been endorsed by the Trump administration and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, proposes an immediate end to fighting and the release of 48 hostages, only 20 individuals are thought to be living, in return for numerous of Palestinian prisoners.
The plan stipulates that once both sides approve the plan "humanitarian support will be immediately sent into the Palestinian territory"
It also specifies that the militant group would have no involvement in governing Gaza, and it leaves the door open an future Palestinian sovereignty.
Current Situation
Recently, the group answered to the initiative in a declaration, in which the group approved "to free all detainees, both alive and killed, in accordance with the transfer mechanism contained in the American plan" - if the necessary circumstances for the transfers are satisfied.
It failed to address or endorse Trump's 20-point plan but said it "reaffirms its commitment to transfer the administration of the Palestinian territory to a governing council of technocrats, based on regional unity and international backing"
The declaration made no mention of one of the crucial requirements of the initiative – that the militant group accept its military demobilization and to having no future involvement in the governance of Gaza.
International Response
Local residents characterized Hamas' response to the ceasefire proposal as surprising, after multiple days of signals that the organization was considering denial or at least significantly qualify its endorsement of the American initiative.
Conversely, the organization excluded its customary boundaries in the public announcement, a decision many consider a indication of outside forces.
Global and local leaders have endorsed the initiative. The governing body, which administers areas of the Palestinian territories, has described the US president's efforts as "sincere and determined"
The Persian nation - which has been one of Hamas's main sponsors for many years - has also currently expressed its endorsement of the American initiative.
